Talented people that produce good work. If you like cherryholmes, alison krauss and unionstation, and nickel creek- you will enjoy this album. Like I said, its good stuff. And Sierra has a really pleasant voice-very reminicient of Alison. For me, first and foremost-its about instrumentals; thats why I listen to newgrass. I love banjo and mandolin played rather skillfully and fast, and this is apparent all over the album. Look, this is one of the best newgrass albums to come out in along time and I have played the hell out of it. I am sure you will enjoy it.
No, LOVE. I'd never even heard of Sierra Hull before, but she was one of the "if you liked that, you may like this" suggestions. This has become my commute CD. Well, WOW. Like. I drive an hour each way, and just play this one over, and over and over again. Love her.
Sierra Hull is a master on the mandolin. The album is deserving of the IBMA Album of the Year nomination and very well and if does, would be quite deserving of the trophy. It is an amazing album, one that you'll listen to and not even think about pressing the skip button at any point. And if you get a chance to see her live, she's an amazing performer, one of if not the best show's I've seen.
With hard work and a little luck, maybe she will carve out something entirely new. Will she add depth to her vocal expression without losing the quality that makes her singing so appealing.
Sierra Hull captures that essential quality with this, her debut album. Perhaps no genre of music is as unashamedly honest as American country.
As impressed as I was with the voice, I had to remind myself: "That's her picking." I wonder what course her development will take. I'll add my name to the chorus of people who believe this young lady is a major new talent.
She sings with rare clarity and innocence, and plays like a master musician. Only time will tell but for the moment, this looks and sounds like someone we'll be talking about, and listening to, for decades.
From the sound of this first effort, she's that good.
This record is well worth twice its price, and if you ever have the chance to see this girl play live, don't miss her. The Secrets CD is as smooth and polished as anything recorded by AKUS, and bears many repeated playings without getting old.
Her talent and abilities are way beyond her years (16 in 2008). First off, this musician is a child prodigy who was plucked from obscurity at age 11 by none other than Chris Thile and Alison Krauss.
I've seen her play live on four occasions (so far) just to see for myself if she can really deliver the goods in concert, and trust me, she can - in spades. If you enjoy well-produced, and beautifully-played bluegrass, this album won't disappoint.
While Sierra's voice is unmistakably that of a teen-aged girl (not unlike a very young AK), her phrasing and style, nevermind the mando playing, is that of a grown-up who's been at it for decades. Sierra's mandolin (and guitar) talent is astonishing, and proves that bluegrass is a haven for true musicianship, unlike Top 40 pop and American Idol pretenders.
She's unforgettable, and has charm & charisma to boot.
